Little Music Guides

Classical music is usually described as “calming” or “classy”—totally different from the energy and color and emotion that a musician might hear in a classical piece. I was curious as to whether there was a way to help non-musicians understand the color and drama in classical music as vividly as musicians do. The guides cover three different pieces—“Spring” by Vivaldi, “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saens, and “Passepied” by Debussy. The fourth volume is a transcription of a Young People's Concert by the late American conductor Leonard Bernstein. With each spread corresponding to a specific place in the music, these guides gives listeners a simple story to follow along to, providing a new way of listening to music.
